Entrance of the Guests to the Asparagus Festival
All eyes then fix upon the board,
a fern-leafed form of Eden, Where nothing is forbidden, yet more gleams than may be eaten, Where emerald iced, pureed and blanched, and served up as a swizzle, In aspic set with eels entwined, asparagus makes sizzle. A glass the host then passes round to raise the toast among them: |
