Haikus – Winter Season
summer's last days
ten thousand years of winter --the funicular all a winter's day the wren flits twig to bare twig to make a living thick bare limbs above --all winter young beech trees shiver in dead leaves bare limbs that were green and growing and you were alive icy air numbs all the twigs still something stirs in the root first robins flying north
last juncos flying south - winter meeting bus-stop –everyone boards but the snow man owl and ermine – Audubon settles winter on a sturdy branch humorous shoulders – first snow trying to shake all four paws biting wind –mountains quiver even the stars skeins of snow jerked up the restive ceiling fan stirs –loose window ice lenses ignite twigs and branches held up – the heatless sun red light frozen red light abandoned intersection – the priest stops alone one big eye over the edge of her fur – the seal’s baby by the gas station with fresh-cut Christmas greens forsythia bloom |
